Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) means the responsibility of a producer for the environmentally sound management of the product until the end of its life

EPR signifies a producer’s obligation for environmentally sound product management throughout its lifecycle. Mandated by the plastic waste management rules, EPR places responsibility on Producers, Importers, and Brand Owners (PIBOs) related to both pre-consumer and post-consumer plastic packaging waste.

Under EPR, PIBOs are accountable for minimizing waste generation, preventing littering, ensuring source segregation, proper storage, and directing segregated waste to recycling facilities through local bodies or authorized agencies.
